A subject that everyone knows and dreads, especially as parents. Keeping the house clean.

How can I keep my house clean? Without spending hours upon hours cleaning up?

Here are some simple tips to keep things clean around the house.

1. Pick things up as you spot them

I know, probably a given.

I’m a firm believer of cleaning as you go instead of all at once.

I see so many people just walk over stuff or push it aside. Why not as you can just pick it up as you go?

Especially the kids! Like dear lord!

2. Have a laundry basket in multiple areas throughout the house

Not sure if everyone does this or not.

In the duplex we live in the kids’ rooms are across from each other and their bathroom sits between the bedrooms, so I keep a basket in each room and one between the rooms.

Also, my baskets aren’t the typical ones I actually use the storage bins we used while moving.

There is also a basket in the laundry room. This probably sounds odd, however, my bathroom is beside the laundry room.

3. Have the kids help clean

Right now you’re probably scoffing or laughing, but I’m being serious.

At least once a week I have the kids pitch in and clean.

Typically I make it work by having them clean before doing something they are asking to do, like go outside or play on the Wii.

Exchange of work usually works for me.

4. Have a cloth and spray solution at the ready

This one may sound odd but, I find that having a spray bottle of cleaning solution and a dishrag makes cleaning faster like spills.

I use the solution in a spray bottle and a rag for easy cleanup.

This is definitely a time saver for me!

5. Have Storage/Toy Containers in multiple areas

This may become the junk box if you’re not careful.

Usually, in different areas throughout the house where it’s well suited, I place those foldable storage bins.

I like the idea of multiple baskets throughout the house. I have four kids though, and if I spent all day picking up after them, that would be all I did haha. These are great tips.

I have three in total, i try to convince them and barter to get their help with chores and picking up around the house to lessen the workload. I’m not saying it’ll be perfect but i definitely think it will help!

  3. I personally use 4 out of your tips and they work! 🙂 Another tips is I assign each person a laundry day and depending on age is what their laundry chore is.

Thanks, Jessie! Storage bins are my best friend. I used them when moving to avoid the frustration of cardboard especially since it was still snowing and raining when we moved. they store easily and can be used for just about anything!
